This is one of our more recent projects. When we first moved into the house, we removed a wallpaper border, repaired the ceiling, and painted the hallway. This fall, we decided that we needed a place to display family photos. So Leo installed a chair rail and we painted underneath the chair rail the same color that we used in our bedrooms. (Valspar-Waverly Classics-Coffee-eggshell) I believe that in a small house you need a lot of continuity.
It took me forever to decide on which photos to display. Then I reprinted them in either black and white or sepia and then framed them. And I’m still not finished with the display because I have some photos that need just the right frames. But overall, I’m pleased with how the hallway looks now.
This was my grandmother’s pie safe. I remember it sitting in her dining room when I was a young girl, and yes, she placed freshly baked pies in it. The print on top of the safe dates back to the early 1900’s. Leo’s Uncle Ben ran an antique store across the street, and he gave the print to Leo as a gift. Isn’t the girl in the print beautiful?
