What You Need To Make Snowball Cookies

    • 1 cup butter
    • ½ cup sweet condensed milk
    • 2 cups flour
    • 3 teaspoon baking powder
    Ingredients for snowball cookies

    How to Make Snowball Cookies

In a large bowl mix the flour with the baking powder.

In another bowl combine the butter with the sweet condensed milk. You can use a mixer for this step. Make sure the butter is soft so you can mix it easier.

Mixing ingredients to make snowball cookies

When the butter and the milk are creamed together, add the flour mixture and continue mixing until you get a firm dough.

Shape small balls from the dough with your hands and place them in a previously prepared baking pan.

How to make dough balls into cookies

Repeat the same procedure until you create all the balls and no dough is left.

Bake the cookies at 350°F (180°C) for 10-15 minutes. When they start to brown, remove them out of the oven.

Decorate the cookies with powdered sugar.

    Tips to Make Snowball Cookies

    • If you're adding nuts to your condensed milk cookies, use a food processor to finely grind your nuts - this will help ensure that all of the pieces are the same size and evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
    • If you can, use real butter instead of margarine or shortening - it will give your cookies an extra-flavorful boost.
    • Make sure all of your ingredients are at room temperature before you start - this will help ensure that the cookie dough isn't too sticky.
    • If you're wanting them to stay in tight balls, a great way to keep your snowball cookies from spreading too much while they're baking, is to chill the dough for about 15 minutes before shaping and baking them.
    • Bake your snowball cookies until lightly golden brown around the edges - they should be slightly crisp on the outside but still a bit chewy inside. If you want a drier texture throughout, let them bake a bit longer until browned on top.
    • Sprinkle powdered sugar generously over your snowball cookies once they're out of the oven for an extra-special touch. The more snow the better!

    FAQs About Making Snowball Cookies

Can I add pecans to my condensed milk cookies?

Yes! Pecans add a great flavor and texture to snowball cookies. Just make sure to finely chop the pecans before adding them to the dough.

Can I use other types of nuts for my snowball cookies?

Absolutely! You can use any type of nut you'd like - from pecans and walnuts to hazelnuts and almonds. Just make sure to finely grind them before adding them to the cookie dough.

What is the best way to store snowball cookies?

Once the cookies have cooled, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

If you want to gift your condensed milk cookies, I recommend a cookie tin or a tupperware container, as opposed to a zipper-top bag, because they do have a tendency to fall apart if you're not careful with them.

Is it possible to freeze snowball cookies?

Yes, you can freeze snowball cookies for up to a month. Make sure they're completely cooled before freezing and wrap each cookie individually in plastic wrap. When you're ready to serve them, thaw the cookies at room temperature and then sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.

    Are these vegan snowball cookies?

No. Snowball cookies are traditionally made with condensed milk, so they're not vegan. However, you can make vegan snowball cookies by substituting the condensed milk with a dairy-free alternative such as coconut milk or almond milk.

    Are these gluten-free snowball cookies?

No. Snowball cookies are typically made with all-purpose flour, so they're not gluten-free. However, you can make them gluten-free by using a gluten-free baking mix in place of the all-purpose flour.

Can you make snowball cookies without condensed milk?

Yes, you can make snowball cookies without condensed milk. Just make your own sweetened condensed milk by combining equal parts sugar and milk (or dairy-free alternative milk) in a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer until the mixture has thickened and then use it as a substitute for condensed milk in the recipe.
