Instructions

Prepare the Dip

  • In a clean bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, drained horseradish, paprika, and cayenne pepper, and season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
2 tablespoons Mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons Sour Cream, 1 teaspoon Ketchup, ½ teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce, 1 tablespoon Drained Horseradish, ¼ teaspoon Paprika, ⅛ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper, Kosher Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • Cover and refrigerate.

Slice the Onion

  • Cut off ½ inch from the pointy stem end of the onion and peel it.
    1 large Sweet Onion
  • Place the onion cut-side down and make four evenly spaced downward cuts, starting from ½ inch from the root and going through to the board.
  • Rotate the onion and make four more cuts between each section, resulting in 16 evenly spaced cuts.
  • Turn the onion over and gently separate the outer pieces using your fingers.

Prepare the Coating

  • In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cayenne pepper, paprika, dried thyme, dried oregano, ground cumin, and freshly ground black pepper.
2 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour, 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper, 1 tablespoon Paprika, ½ teaspoon Dried Thyme, ½ teaspoon Dried Oregano, ½ teaspoon Ground Cumin, Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Dip and Coat the Onion

  • In a small deep bowl, whisk together the eggs and whole milk.
2 large Eggs, 1 cup Whole Milk, Teaspoon Salt
  • Dip the onion in the flour mixture, ensuring the petals are coated. Shake off excess flour.
  • Fully submerge the onion in the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off.
  • Repeat the flouring process, ensuring thorough coating.

Preheat and Air Fry

  • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes.
  • While preheating, lightly spray the blooming onion with cooking spray on both sides.
  • Place the onion in the air fryer basket and cover it with a piece of aluminum foil to protect the tips.
  • Air fry for 10 minutes, then remove the aluminum foil and continue air frying for the remaining 15 minutes.

Serve

  • Once the blooming onion is golden brown and crispy, carefully remove it from the air fryer.
  • Serve the Air Fryer Crispy Blooming Onion with the prepared dip.
