Gently warm the milk and water; ensure it's not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
¾ cup milk, ½ cup water
Whisk in the granulated sugar until dissolved.
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Add the active yeast to the mixture, stirring until it's fully dissolved. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy and activated.
2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons active yeast
Combine Dough Ingredients:
Place the flour in a stand mixer or a bowl.
Add the oil to the yeast mixture.
2 tablespoons oil
Mix the Dough:
Gradually add the yeast mixture to the flour. Mix on low speed for 3-4 minutes using a stand mixer, or knead by hand for about 6 minutes until the dough comes together.
If the dough is too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until the right consistency is achieved. If it's too dry, no additional moisture is needed.
First Rise:
Place the dough in a clean, covered bowl. Allow it to rise for one hour.
Shape and Second Rise:
Once the dough has risen, use a cup or a cookie cutter to cut out donut shapes. Create a hole in the center using your finger or a tool.
Place the cut-out donuts on a tray.
Cover the tray with a towel and let the donuts rise for an additional 30 minutes.
Air Frying:
Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (185°C).
Place the donuts in the air fryer in a single layer, making sure they do not touch each other. Cook for 5-6 minutes, flipping them halfway through to ensure even cooking. Avoid overfilling the air fryer.
Glazing:
Once the donuts are cooked and have a lovely golden color, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool slightly.
Add your chosen glaze or icing to the cooled donuts.
