Hi sweet readers! I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day yesterday. Today I’m reviewing a brand new e-book called What the Tech? A Guide to Ease Your Blogging Frustrations written by my friend and blog designer Lesley Clavijo.
Do you remember when we had the blog redesigned about a year ago? Well, it was Lesley who did all the technical work on our redesign which gave us a new and more streamlined look. But even better, the redesign was done to help you guys find our content much easier. And I hope you’ve found that to be the case when you’ve searched for a particular recipe or a project. So even though you may not have a blog yourself, you may be interested in reading about a little bit about the technical side of blogging in today’s What the Tech? review.
And not only am I reviewing it, I’m giving away one Master Package which includes the e-book, a blogging glossary,a workbook, a course guide with links to over 15 tutorial videos, and an invitation to join an exclusive Facebook group where you can ask any questions about the technical side of blogging.
So let me tell you a little about how our blog came to be. After I retired from teaching, Leo and I moved to the Crossroads and I began to read some blogs. I knew what a blog was because Leo had been writing one for a few years. It was more about music and real estate but he never put up any photos on it. His sons had set him up on a WordPress blog from the beginning. WordPress is just one of the blogging platforms that are available. But I’ll have to admit that I didn’t pay too much attention to his blog other than to read his posts because I was still teaching at that time. During my last few years of teaching, I had learned how to use SmartBoards in the classroom and trained other teachers as well. In my newly available free time that I had after retirement, I started reading some blogs, thinking that I had enough computer skills that I could start one, too. Leo and I thought it would be a great way to document our new lifestyle at the Crossroads, a place to house family recipes, and serve as a journal of our garden. Leo’s sons got us up and running using a free WordPress theme. Remember those computer skills that I thought I had? Well, I quickly learned that there was a whole lot more to blogging than I realized! Oh, how I wish that I had had something like Lesley’s e-book What the Tech? to help me in those early years!
Basically, I tried to figure out things on my own by googling my questions or asking my step-sons or blogging friends for help, and I learned quite a bit that way. But when it came time to give our blog a more professional look, I had to call out the big guns (and bucks) to have it redone. And even up to now, whenever I needed to have something added or changed on the blog, I depended on Lesley to do it for me. I was too afraid to tackle those technical things because I had a fear of breaking the blog. (Yes, you can actually do that!)
Well, no more! As a reviewer of this new e-book, I’ve had access to its contents and I have literally learned how to do many things myself. Lesley demystifies everything by giving step-by-step directions and explanations. The book is designed to help both new and experienced bloggers. If you have EVER thought that you’d like to start a blog, then you need to purchase What the Tech? (affiliate link) to guide you through the whole process of getting a domain name, selecting a host, choosing a blogging platform and theme. With this book, you can do it all yourself! Lesley literally leads you by the hand through all these steps. And once these things are accomplished, she tells you how to customize your theme and how to design your logo and header.
For the seasoned blogger, you’ll learn how to edit your CSS file, how to access your cPanel, how to change out your slider images, and a whole bunch of other things that I always considered were WAY over my head! (Sorry to any readers who think I’m speaking Greek. All of this was an unknown language to me, too!)
