Remember this herb bed that Leo made for me?
I’m happy to report that the seeds have germinated and the herbs are growing. I’ve been visiting a lot of blogs lately, and I’ve seen some really cute handmade signs. So I decided to make a sign to hang over the herb bed. And ta-da! Here it is!
Well, I’ve been reading about how all of you are decoupaging various things and I had to get in on the act! So this is the first sign I’ve ever made and it may be the first thing I’ve ever decoupaged! As a former teacher, I’ve made plenty of bulletin boards. So I decided to do something that I do know how to do and that’s make letters! You see, I cannot paint anything freehand. Wish I could, but I can’t.
So I started by finding a board about the right size for my sign. I didn’t have to look far because I spotted my husband using a piece of wood to hack apart lioriope (border grass) that he was dividing.
Here I’m arranging them on the board, but I took them off because I decided that the color of the board wasn’t quite right. So I found some white spray paint in the storage building and added a layer of white. Then I sanded the edges of the board so that some of the green would show.
I picked up some Mod Podge from Hobby Lobby. I remember when everyone was using this stuff back in the 1970’s, but I never did. Leo said for me not to put this little detail in this post because he said most of the bloggers hadn’t even been born by then.
Here’s a closeup of the butterfly that I got from The Graphics Fairy.
Here’s my sign after one coat of Mod Podge. I couldn’t wait to share it with you. Tomorrow I’ll put another coat on as well as several layers of polyurethane since I’ll be placing the sign outdoors. I’ve already figured out how I would make a stencil with the letters in order to paint the letters on another sign. Maybe I’ll even attempt painting the rosemary! It’s a sign that I’ve been reading a lot of blogs lately!
