Here Pop, otherwise known as Leo, is giving them instruction about how to dig potatoes. I wasn’t there, but I think it went something like this. “I’ll use the shovel to dig up the plant, and you pick up any potatoes that you see and put them in the bucket.”
Pop emptied the bucket into the garden cart in order to wash the dirt off the potatoes. The girls helped to turn the potatoes to get them nice and clean. So for dinner last night, I made some home-made french fries with the largest potatoes and the girls agreed that they were yummy!
Ruby also helped pick green peppers, green beans, squash and zucchini yesterday while Pop and Uncle Jim took Rose and Sylvia fishing yesterday. It was their first time to go fishing, and they loved it.
They were so surprised to see a pumpkin growing. I explained that the plant started growing in our compost bin, and then I transplanted it into the garden, not really knowing if it would be a cucumber, a watermelon, a gourd, or a pumpkin. The plants all look alike when they are small.
The girls really enjoyed their time in the garden and luckily, they love to eat plenty of vegetables.
The girls have gone home now. The house is quiet, and we really miss them.
Lucy wonders where they are because she was getting lots of tummy rubs this week!
