Hello everyone! Leo and I have been really busy the past few days getting ready for and participating in the Lamar Silver Fox Tournament of Champions. It is the yearly major fundraiser of the Lamar Civitans, and we consider it the number 1 social event of the year in the Lamar area. Both of us serve on the committee to put this event together which begins with a Thursday night reception and is followed by the golf tournament on Friday.
We started decorating this lattice screen with photos of this year’s honoree. Each year the Civitans honor a person and recognizes his or her contributions to the community. This year’s honoree was Faye Griffin.
Remember reading here about all those old frames that I painted yellow? Well, here they are!
This beautiful monogram was donated by Shannon from Southern Proper Monograms. Click here to see all the fonts and sizes that they have available.
Click here if you’d like to read the post about how I made them. I used some snapdragons and roses that I had blooming in the yard as well as some other purchased flowers.
and the burlap wreath I made earlier this week. If you’d like to make one like it, click here.
The lucious desserts were organized by Kathy Poole.
Fran Knotts was surveying all the goodies on the variety table.
Here’s Leo working the crowd at the party.
The party was a great chance for friends and neighbors to reconnect.
The father and son team of Gordon and Wayne Brown were bartenders extraordinaire!
Jim Newsome presented this plaque to Faye,
and she had the opportunity to speak to the crowd.
More pictures of the event are available at www.newsandpressonline.com.
A special thanks goes to our major sponsor, Carolina Bank. With their help and many others, the Civitans are able to offer scholarships and financial help to the Lamar public schools. The 2012 Silver Fox Tournament of Champions was a huge success.
And I have to add that the Windham Brothers team of Leo, Jim, and Woody placed second in the golf tournament on Friday!
